Report and pictures by Tim Reeder.
We had a good rally to Chichester over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Despite the forecasts containing anything from 4 -7 we had 17 boats turn up for
the Saturday meet on the beach at Hayling Island SC (HISC). We mostly managed to
fit rafted up together, but unfortunately happened to land in the muddiest part
of what is mainly a sandy beach!
We had drinks on the beach and then had a very pleasant meal in HISC. The club was
very hospitable and accommodating especially as they had way over 100 RS dinghies
doing a national event at the same time!
Despite more 5s in the night we were well sheltered and fairly level. The next morning
the organiser had offered a trip up to Emsworth to view the harbour but due to early
tide and appalling weather not many took part.
Later on though the weather perked up and all enjoyed paddling in the mud and cleaning
boats till the afternoon high tide. Sensibly given the forecast several boats headed
back west to home ports on the Sunday, but the more local boats and our hardy Commodore,
making a total of nine, all met up for an excellent barbecue ashore at Thorney Island
SC.
They again were very hospitable and we enjoyed a very pleasant venue plus a more
restful night on moorings and anchors in a well sheltered arm of the harbour.
As far as we know all returned safely on what was a fairly boisterous weekend for
sailing.
